To celebrate our weekly theme, Nursery Rhymes, our students are having fun and learning a lot by combining nursery rhymes with other educational activities! Today Room 12's Pre-K students engaged in some "Itsy Bitsy Spider" themed water play. Students took turns walking a spider up a "water spout" as the class sang the favorite nursery rhyme. Then, with their teachers' help, they "washed the spider out", pouring water down the spout and sending the spider down into a bin. Water play is a fun and educational activity that children love. As multiple early childhood studies have show, "As children manipulate water play materials, they begin to understand why and how things happen". Water play is a great way to discover concepts like floating & sinking and empty & full.
Today was National Bean Day and some of our classrooms celebrated by doing activities with beans! Ms. Donna's Kindergarteners made winter works of art with kidney and lima beans while Ms. Charlene and Ms. Danielle's Pre-K students celebrated this week's Outer Space theme with pinto bean covered crescent moons! Our Pre-K students also had fun with a "Magic Bean" science experiment--watching special capsules dissolve in water to reveal fun sponge shapes.
